Klimt's style drew upon an enormous range of sources: classical Greek, Byzantine, Egyptian, and Minoan art; late-medieval painting and the woodcuts of Albrecht Durer. In synthesizing these diverse sources, Klimt's art achieved both individuality and extreme elegance.
