    George Frederick Handel By Louis-Francois Roubiliac (1702-1762) Anglo-French;

    George Frideric Handel, as Apollo (1737)

    Victoria and Albert Museum, London

    Executed for Vauxhall Gardens. Shows Handel at age 53.
    Playing lyre but seated informally. A plutto at his feet transcribes the melody.

    This work was acquired with Art Fund help in 1965.
    Total acquisition cost: £10,000
